overarching:

• Support the Technical team on the safety, quality, legality and authenticity of itsu [grocery] product packaging and packaging supplier performance
• Responsible for driving the awareness of a food safety culture and ensuring it is always considered during decision making                    
• Responsible for maintaining certain procedures in the food safety & quality management system and ensure AA Grade certification against the BRC A&B standard is maintained.                         

key responsibilities:

• Responsible for approving and onboarding packaging suppliers [with all associated documentation and SAQs completed]. Maintains the supplier management system for existing suppliers ensuring certificates and questionnaires are up to date. 
• Responsible for ongoing risk assessed monitoring of all packaging quality, safety and legality (both directly and indirectly sourced). Ensuring evidence of packaging legislation compliance for all markets is maintained.
• Responsible for completing investigations for issues relating to packaging. Identifies the root cause and puts relevant corrective and preventative actions in place. Drives continuous improvement with suppliers to achieve a reduction in consumer complaints and improvement in food safety standards.
• Responsible for the technical packaging elements of NPD and EPD projects ensuring the gate process is followed, paperwork completed and testing is conducted on time. Foresees and resolves technical issues prior to launch. Attends production trials and first productions where required.
• Completes the product specifications for new directly and indirectly sourced packaging accurately and on time, ensuring that they capture key product safety and quality information. Maintains specifications for existing products ensuring they are accurate and up to date. 

you:

• At least 5 years’ experience working in a packaging safety and technical role with manufacturing and retail/brand experience
• Qualified to degree level in food science or science degree
• Have excellent attention to detail 
• Be able to work in a small team and individually
• Have a passion for food & Asian inspired food in particular
